Losing the crank on my RGA Jota left me without a bike and provided the motivation to sort out the Atlas that has been lurking for 6 months.
I sorted out some broken fibreglass and engine paint, replaced the rear brake master cylinder and seals, new wheel bearings, head bearings, tyres, brake pads, sprag clutch plungers/springs/rollers and an ignitor box and away it went!
Initial impression is that the handling is excellent and I love the high up riding position. The wide bars add to the experience. I have a new Hagon rear shock which is very good. I also think the Pirelli Trail Demon tyres make a difference (my first ever bike to run radials).
Starting and running is good and consistent even with the recent high temperatures. Brakes are adequate and suited to the bike which wouldn't benefit from sharp braking.
The engine likes revs and needs to be revved to get any performance - in truth it could do with more torque but once I realised it isn't a triple I've grown into relaxed 110 kph cruising. I've also got used to fuel consumption which means I'm getting 400 kms per tank (try doing that on a Jota).
The future for the Atlas is tough - I do a daily round-trip commute into London of around 170 kms so any shortcomings with the bike will show up quickly.
Thanks go to Robert for selling the bike to me and then to all the others who've provided advice along the way - no doubt I'll be leaning on your expertise quite a lot over the coming years.
Nick :-)
