Early & late ignitions

Hi,

Can someone explain the difference between the two ignition setups fitted to the Atlas?

From what I gather there was a Bosch or Motoplat system fitted. I assume that the Mk 1 Atlas had the Bosch and that in all probability the Mk 2 had the Motoplat?

I see on Bob Dixon's website the Mk 2 is described as having the later Motoplat ignition fitted - Bob describes it thus 'There were minor alterations to the side panels and tail unit [which housed the new Motoplat ignition module]'. My Mk 2 has Motoplat ignition boxes and ignition coils but I cannot see anything mounted in the tail unit - the ignition boxes are either side of the frame top tube on rubber hangers. Do I have some kind of hybrid ignition?
